Mechanical Engineer – Munich, Germany
We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for one of our partners, an IT Software Product Company. This position requires relocation to Munich, Germany.
As a member of the dynamic Instrumentation Product Design team, you will play a key role in Hardware Test Engineering, focusing on crafting innovative optomechanical instruments and test tooling. Your mechanical engineering expertise will be utilized to conceptualize, define specifications, and contribute to the development of precision mechanical test apparatus. Your role is crucial in bringing to life the test solutions that drive the evolution of cutting-edge modules for the next generation of optical components and products.
You will collaborate with a top US Tech company in Munich, engaging directly with the customer team in a highly agile environment. The customer is seeking an individual with a strong, hands-on, and proactive mentality, combined with a passion for engineering and a motivation to learn.
Requirements:
➢ 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Production or lab, preferably in optics and/or precision mechanics industry;
➢ 3+ years of experience with CAE/Mechanical Simulation;
➢ Experience with 3D CAD Tools: Unigraphics NX (preference), SolidWorks, ProEngineer, etc;
➢ Experience in the design and implementation of basic test apparatus;
➢ Experience in GD&T (Geometry, Dimensioning, and Tolerancing), alignment datum setup, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA);
➢ Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems is required;
➢ Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional and cross-company team members and collaborate efficiently to achieve project goals;
➢ Hands-on experience with prototype assembly and testing;
➢ Experience with precision motion stages, optical mounting techniques, kinematic constraints, etc;
➢ Educational background as a technician.
Responsibilities:
➢ Design and develop test fixtures, jigs, mounting brackets, alignment systems, etc.
➢ Develop CAD models for basic components for prototyping;
➢ Modify and improve current concepts for testing equipment;
➢ Prepare production drawings and effectively communicate with potential manufacturing vendors;
➢ Participate in design validation and characterization during prototype bring-up and product deployment;
➢ Oversee station, fixture, characterization set-up, motion stage, DUT/Instrument alignment system, Custom Optomechanics part, etc;
➢ Handle instruments bring-up and lab support, material procurement, prototype testing, 3D printing, reporting, and prototyping;
➢ Drive failure analysis and design of experiments (DOEs) to reach design solutions and corrective actions;
➢ Mount DUT and Instrument on holding fixtures and machines, using adhesive, friction, or vacuum;
➢ Manage station and lab setup, shipment coordination, equipment inventories and supplies, security and access, lab safety, and policy compliance;
➢ Submit and track purchase requests for the IPD team for new DOE and station development materials;
➢ Operate and maintain lab equipment, including electrical tools, 3D printers, etc.
